Coffee Break Tales

This is my first book borrowed from the Perpustakaan Desa. I chose it just because I thought I will get something funny to read like Honk! If You're Malaysian (thanks to my wrong impression) and also because of there are very limited English book there.(heh!) Its written by Yeoh Gim Suan, published by Pelanduk Publications. It have 27 short stories or tales basically about Malaysian. I took a week to finish the book, and its quite long for me since it only have 177 pages. This is because after read the first two title, I feel kind of tired, and feel the need to stop the reading and it occurred again and again when I continue my reading.

The first story is about Suet Ling who keen to control her twins, Darren and Kevin's life. Darren married to someone from different religion so that Suet Ling thought that he is such an ungrateful son and it continues by cold welcome and sarcastic remarks to the daughter in law that made her run from the house. Even though it ends with they being together, I still feel it is such a tragic story especially when Suet Ling collapsed on Darren wedding. It is not the ending supposed to be,yeah, at least for me

At first I thought just a few topics that have such negative ending but after reading half of the book, I found almost all of the stories has similar ending.
Yes, the mistake made by the parents may effect their child life because according to Dr Lai Hong Hwa (who write the foreword of the book), childhood memories have significant consequences on their later years. Oh, for me, the major moral-of-the-story in this book is parent need to improve their parenting skills.

And yes, this is my first book review. Thank you.
